Ladies B 2009

Mixed B

With the sun shining on a cold, winter afternoon, the Mixed B team warmed up like dedicated, true hockey professionals...sat in their cars with the heaters on!  However, it was the inspirational words of Garreth "The Ginge" Roome that got the make-shift team gee'd up for an exciting match.  Thinking back, I'm not exactly sure what Garreth did say...I switched off part way when he started with the line, "we can hammer this Bacchas lot...Moyer told me that even their mum's don't like them"!  Well that would've been all well and good but the green shirts of the Ramsey opposition gave the real identity of the opposition away to all but Garreth!

The game started well for Valkyrs with the midfield duo of Victor Ferns and David Hall taking control of proceedings.  If the centre-forward (who'll remain anonymous for the purposes of this report) had been any good, the team would have found themselves more than just 2-1 up at half-time.  Steven Lowe had opened up the scoring early on in the half with the only other goal for Valkyrs coming from a Vic Ferns penalty flick.

The second half continued in the same vein, although the right winger, Steven Lowe, had taken ill-advised inspiration from the centre-forward and started firing everything wide!  He was starting to look almost as bad as Chris Caldwell in front of goal...and damn that's bad!  However, Steven did manage to salvage a little bit of dignity to round off a great game and slot home one more goal just before full-time, making the final score 5-1.  This was after Hull had tucked away a sneaky goal and Ferns had doubled his personal tally with a drag flick into the top, right corner.  Report by "The anonymous centre-forward"
